Sofia's Pizza House, Camberwell
Reviews for Sofia's Pizza House
I had merely enjoyed their food....I just lovin it....Truly value for money.....
Normally I wouldn't come online and do a review of a restraunt, but in this case, I had to.
Sofias Camberwell is GREAT!
I ordered the large 'quattro gusti', and it was HUGE!
I finished about half of it, and took the rest home for lunch the next day!!
It was loud at some times, but not too bad.
Garlic from a jar
Wow this place serves the worst food imaginable. I asked for garlic bread and a lady threw a small pizza base with minced garlic from a jar on the table. I could not believe my eyes when I saw it. I thought restaurants were supposed to use fresh ingredients? Especially garlic being that they're Italian and all. For the main I got the avocado and mushroom fettuccine which was thrown over two places. It looked like green dogs breakfast and had zero flavour. I tried to make it taste like something by putting Parmesan and salt on it but I could only eat like 4 forks. I would come here if you want to keep your figure because the food is so gross you wouldn't eat it or take it home. I mean really... MINCED GARLIC?!?! also apparently if you complain and man with a moustache verbally abuses you. Gross place, full of gross people eating gross food. I would recommend this place to no one.
Cheap, tasty and filling
Sofia's are known for their huge meals - it is difficult to finish even the entree size. This means that it is cheap. It is about $11 for an entree pasta and this will usually be enough for dinner and then take home for lunch the next day. Same goes for the pizzas. Both the pizzas and the pastas are yummy.
In my experience, Sofia's in Camberwell is not a place I ever want to eat a main course again (meat and veges). The meat is usually undercooked or overcooked- I have been served chicken which I sent back because it was still pink. The vegetables are steamed until they're floppy.
The desserts are excellent- huge servings of gelati or giant slabs of cake which are both so tasty.
The waiters vary. Sometimes i have been there and I have had excellent waiters and other times they have been pretty shocking. Overall though, the waiters are acceptable.
At Sofia's, Camberwell you are usually served quickly and your meal comes quickly despite the fact that they are generally busy. You can tell the difference between when they are busy and when they're not. When they are busy the pasta often comes overflowing one side of the bowl onto the plate below. When they are less busy the food is presented well.
Really Sad Experience
First and foremost, the staff are horrid!! I have actually been to the Sofia's Pizza House up in frankston just about a month before this and had a decent time and meal with a couple of my work colleagues. However, this time round it was a completely different story.
As we walked in a waitor sat us to a table, and pretty much threw napkins, forks and knives at us. Two minutes later, he came back up to us and took our order, on receiving our order about 15 minutes later (which is pretty impressive considering it was peak lunch time), we had noticed that one of our dishes was not chicken as per our order but was Veal instead. Since two of my colleagues are unable to eat red meat we tried for 10 minutes to actually get the attention of our waitor. Finally one of us decided to actually get up and go inform him of the order mix up (which obviously isn't a big deal, mistakes happen). When he got to our table a couple of minutes later was the unexpected part, he actually accused us of ordering veal and changing our mind. When a colleague suggested it was Veal and not chicken he replied and in his own words "I know it's Veal, Calm down.. What's wrong with you?"
I can honestly tell you that I have never been in a restaurant where the waitor tells a customer "What's wrong with you?", any how, since it was a couple of people from work, we just laughed it off, but it was truely disappointing just how we were treated.
The portions were large as usual, but anyhow thats what Sofia's is known for, the food was alright, but the whole waitor incident was pretty much a mood kill.
The problem there is because of the reasonable prices and large quantities, it gets pretty full for lunch even though the entire restaurant is huge, not enough staff is pretty much the reason and basically I guess they don't mind losing out on return business.
P.S. The waitor is an elderly gentleman with a thick black moustache, stay away from him!! hehe.. Then you might have a good time
the restaurant is huge and so are the meal size's. It's a very good price and very good food, although it seems you will never finish your plate because the serve so much to one person, but the good side is that they let you take it home in a take-away container so you dont waste the great food. I recommend the mars bar chocolate cake for desert, it comes with a free serve of galati.
Been here? Tell us about it!
